Kenny Werner is a fluently inventive pianist and leader of one of the most acclaimed and influential piano-trios in contemporary American jazz.
With a decade-and-a-half of shared experiences and several strong albums already under its belt, the music of Werner’s trio morphs frequently, as rhythms prance, flow, stutter and stride in unexpected ways to take audiences on a lyrical journey through the vast seas of improvised music.
Drummer Ari Hoenig is just as likely to drive the action as he is to trace the melodic contours of a passage, while bassist Johannes Weidenmueller is a grounding force and a harmonically astute linchpin.
A Grammy Award nominated composer and the winner of a Guggenheim Fellowship, Kenny Werner is a wide-open reservoir of musical knowledge, imparts intelligence thought with his every movement.
A recording artists for two decades on the seminal Blue Note label, Kenny Werner is a giant of contemporary jazz who has worked with the best. 20 years ago his landmark book ‘Effortless Mastery, Liberating the Master Musician Within’ was published to worldwide acclaim, and has become required reading in music education since then. During his visit Kenny will also present his ‘Effortlessly Mastery’ workshop at Bray Jazz Festival.
