White Rocket is new a collective trio of remarkable talents: Sean Carpio, Jacob Wick and Greg Felton.
This new project is developed from their immersion in Carnatic (Indian) influenced music, jazz/improvised music, and their various influences such as Nick Drake, Hindemith, Autechre, and Gesualdo.
Sean Carpio is widely considered the Irish drummer of the moment. Greg Felton is considered by The Irish Times to be “the most promising young keyboard performer here”.
Chicago-born Jacob Wick is an innovator who has worked with Jason Moran and Dave Douglas.
White Rocket formed earlier this year at the Banff International Workshop in Jazz and Creative Music. The group’s mutual interests in the music of renowned composer and pianist Vijay Iyer (a teacher at Banff who also appears later in the series) led them to focus on their own version of his music and the pursuit of a new sound within it. |
