Maceo Parker is the godfather of funk music - his band, the tightest little funk orchestra on earth.
The great American saxophone player has played with each and every leader of funk, was a long-time collaborator with James Brown, subsequently jumped onboard Bootie Collins and George Clinton's 'Funkadelic' and 'Parliament' bands, with considerable critical success.
More recently, Maceo Parker has brought his impeccable funk sensibility to Prince's 'New Power Generation' band, with whom he has played since the late 1990's.
It was with the late, great James Brown that Maceo Parker is most closely associated however. A prominent soloist on many of Brown's hit recordings, he was for many years a key part of his band, playing alto, tenor and baritone saxophones.
Parker's rhythmic and rapid playing style draws on the earlier innovations of be-bopper Charlie Parker (no relation), and Cannonball Adderley, and he drives his little funk orchestra along with power and precision.
The Maceo Parker Band team up for their only Irish date with brilliant British trombonist Dennis Rollins, whose unique and exciting approach to the under-rated trombone proves that it can be an exciting front-line instrument. His high energy, groove-based funky dance music -with jazz overtones, has won him multiple awards, and fans of all ages.
Over the years Dennis has established a reputation as an artist of excellence and has lent his talents to some of the world's top jazz and pop personalities such as Courtney Pine, Baba Maal, Jamiroquai, US3, Brand New Heavies and Blur.
