Lyrical and elegant and possessing dazzling technique, Austrian guitarist Wolfgang Muthspiel teams up with brilliant American bassist Larry Grenadier for this concert.
A player who harnesses the rare combination of accessibility and sophistication has won numerous awards and competitions during a serious and multi-faceted musical career which which kicked off when he graduated from Berklee College in 1989.
He decamped to New York and became the first guitarist to feature in The Gary Burton Quintet since Pat Metheny departed more than a decade earlier, and went on to work with an array of A-listers including Paul Motian, David Liebman, Django Bates, Peter Erskine, the Vienna Art Orchestra and Steve Arguelles.
He is joined here by one such A-lister, San Franciso born jazz bassist Larry Grenadier who is one of the finest players of his generation.
Grenadier is a long time collaborator with pianist Brad Mehldau, and has also played with such luminaries as John Scofield, Pat Metheny and Bill Stewart, among others.
"Rivetingly original, thoughtful and totally absorbing without being forbiddingly esoteric; firmly structured but allowing just enough space for free individual expression."
