In this case Tarab is an ensemble directed by Turin-born musician and composer Francesco Turrisi, and aims to create an imaginary link between aesthetic elements of Mediterranean music and the Irish instrumental and vocal tradition.
Taking common elements such as similar instrumentation, ornamentation and performance practice as a point of departure, Tarab develops a whole new multicultural musical language based on instrumental virtuosity and exciting rhythms.
Jazz and improvisation are also key elements in the musical creative process of Tarab. Tarab has collaborated with many guests such as Theodosii Spassov, Gabriele Mirabassi, Pedram Khavar Zamini, Bijan Chemirani, Andrea Piccioni.
The group were artists in residence at Bray's Mermaid Arts Centre for the duration of 2010, and have appeared at Bray Jazz Festival on a number of occasions. They will use this concert to launch their debut album.
