Lets say this first you are unlikely to have ever witnessed a musician of this age playing at this level.
13 year old Slovakian-born, Hungarian gypsy guitarist Andreas Varady plays with frightening speed, complex harmony and chording that are delivered with a feel that belie his tender years.
Andreas has been playing the guitar since the age of four. Taught by his father, Bandi, with whom he plays, he was inspired at an early age by Django Reinhardt, and later Wes Montgomery, George Benson and Bireli Lagrene, learning their styles by ear.
A resident in Ireland for the past two years, Andreas Varady recently recorded and released his debut album 'Questions', on which he co-leads with Belfast based drummer David Lyttle, and is accompanied by American bass player Michael Janisch and his father Bandi on rhythm guitar.
"Varady, who looks much like any other early teenage boy in jeans and Converse trainers, shoots off on a solo of astonishing virtuosity and speed with the casual, distracted air that other boys of his age have when they're idling away afternoons on an Xbox." - The Times (UK)
"Andreas Varady, like Django Reinhardt and Ferenc Snetberger, is a brilliant jazz guitarist of European gypsy stock and, at 13, may yet be the best of them all.." Irish Times
"Commanding the stage, the boy who's not much bigger than his guitar has become something of a sensation" Belfast Telegraph
