If you want to find out what’s happening in jazz in South America just now then this performance by two of Brazil’s most exciting players is the perfect place to start.
Hamilton De Holanda is a charismatic virtuoso performer who has revolutionized the Brazilian ten-string bandolim since he first emerged on the music scene in his native Rio de Janeiro, while Andre Mehmari is considered to be one of the most talented and exciting pianists and of his generation, in both popular and classical music.
Short-listed for a Grammy Music award two years ago, De Holanda is a dynamic and engaging player whose frenetic yet soulful playing crosses musical boundaries.
The duo’s latest collaboration ‘Gismontipascoal’ is a fascinating project that is dedicated to the music of two giants of Brazilian music, Egberto Gismonti and Hermeto Pascoal.
“Hamilton De Holanda is one of the greatest virtuosos of bandolim of all times” – All About Jazz.
“If you enjoy modern pianists like Jarrett or Mehldau and still don’t know Andre Mehmari, listen to his music. Like the two mentioned above, the young pianist combines classical music influences with an exuberant improvisation capability". - |
