Dave Douglas & Trish Clowes Eyes Up Quintet (US/UK)

Mermaid Arts Centre - Sunday May 5th, 8:00pm

Also Featuring: Next Experiment (Venezuela/Italy/Ire/Spain)

Celebrated New York trumpeter Dave Douglas teams up with saxophonist Trish Clowes for a unique musical voyage that plays clear homage to their mutual love of Wayne Shorter.

This stellar quintet, who also include pianist and Hammond organist Ross Stanley, bassist Chris Montague and drummer Joel Barford will present music that is contemporary, rhythmic and lyrical, bringing to the table he full compositional powers of a thrilling new collaborative effort.

Dave Douglas is no stranger to Bray Jazz – visiting most recently with the Sound Prints quintet that he co-led with the great Joe Lovano. Back on 2007 his amazing Keystone band released an award-winning recording – Moonshine – based on recordings of a live concert that they had played at Bray, that year.

Trish Clowes ‘My Iris’ quartet released their widely acclaimed ‘A View With A Room’ album on Dave Douglas’s Greenleaf Music label, last year. ‘A View with a Room’ received a four- star review and was named ‘Album of the Month’ by The Guardian, and BBC 6 presenter Gilles Peterson called it simply: ‘brilliant’.

“Dave Douglas is the unassuming king of independent jazz.”
